When I first heard of 3D printing, to my mind, I thought it was an awesome way to produce plastic toys. I was later informed that it was much bigger than that. 3D printing is revolutionizing product design, testing and even manufacturing. That tells you one thing, this technology is not a fad. It is a revolution.

What is 3D printing?

3D printing is described as an innovative approach to the creation of objects through a systematic and iterative process. It creates objects by building them up layer by layer, as is distinct from contemporary methods of manufacturing, which cut materials away. Different technologies construct objects by building them using different materials. Some use liquid resin, others formulate a plasma foam, while some even liquefy a specific metal. FDM is the process people think of when brought 3D printing. A plastic filament that is melted to form layers is affordable and quick. It's good for basic designs.

MJF improves on SLS by not only fusing nylon powder but also binding it with an added agent for better surface quality and faster print times.

3D Printing Metal is a Game Changer

With metal printing, the possibilities are endless.

Dense solid parts without chemically complicated or laborious processes can be machined or cast. Structures, internal channels, and complex lightweight shapes are all possible. Metal DMLS uses lasers that sinter powder to create solid parts.

EBM uses powder melting electron beams in a vacuum. This is used for high-end industry and medical applications.

How strong you want the part.
