Vsesvetovni protest v nedeljo: ČLOVEŠTVO ZA PODNEBJE
Objavljeno Sep 18, 2014

Vzpodbudno nagovorno pismo od izvršnega direktorja Greenpeacea, Kumija Naidooja v zvezi s svetovnim protestom v nedeljo:

This Sunday 21 September, something incredible will happen. In just about every corner of the planet, people will take to the streets to demand real action to tackle climate change. It's set to be a momentous day, one not to be missed. And I, for one, can’t wait to take part.

World leaders will be in New York for a landmark climate summit -- called by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Like so many of us who care about the future of our planet, Ban Ki-moon knows that, unless rapid action is taken soon, the world is headed for a climate catastrophe. That’s why he’s called this summit now, with numerous heads of states and governments attending.

I'm heading to New York right now because tomorrow I will accompany a young and indigenous Arctic delegation who will be meeting with Ban Ki-moon. This will be my opportunity to speak on behalf of more than 6 Million Arctic Defenders across the globe, to state in clear terms that the world can wait no longer. I will let him know we will be in the streets on the 21st calling on him and world leaders to create a world with an economy that works for people and the planet – now. In short, we want a protected Arctic and a world safe from the ravages of climate change. Not a bunch of pledges of hot air which are meaningless and are destroying the planet.

While leaders sit down at the UN building, over 100,000 people will gather in the streets outside. Will you join a People’s Climate March event near you this Sunday?

Over the last 100 years, great social movements have changed the world. The civil rights movement, the movement to bring down Apartheid, and the women's rights movement before that -- all of these taught us the importance of having people out on the street. So let’s march together this Sunday -- every one of us counts!

Thank you,

Kumi Naidoo
International Executive Director
Greenpeace International

PS. Some of us have been on lots of marches, and for some this will be the first of many. It will make this Sunday a very special and unique moment, hopefully the beginning of something big. A fun, colourful and uplifting day -- the largest climate march in history. See you there.
