SLS will endure and keep on working
Ljubljana, July 2014 – Slovenian People's Party got 3, 95 % in the parliamentary elections in Slovenia, missing the parliamentary threshold by 0, 05 percentage points. While waiting for the results of the election, MP candidates commented on the work SLS has done during the electoral campaign and the work it will do in the future.
Member of the party’s Executive committee and Head of the electoral campaign headquarters Roman Žveglič said SLS has had a traditional campaign and did good work. He expressed a greater concern for the future of Slovenia and its citizens than for the future of SLS, saying_ “People who won the elections made promises, but failed to tell voters there is hard work to be done. Only hard work can save Slovenia, the same as it is in a company or at home, on a farm.”
MP Franc Pukšič mentioned that campaigns of most parties were not based on programs, but on promises, while Jakob Presečnik, an MP since 1996, when SLS’s result in the elections was record-breaking, said_ “This is a setback. SLS will have to think very thoroughly about the next steps. First we must intensively prepare for elections of municipal councils and mayors in the autumn. Than we have to make an even greater effort for the next parliamentary elections, with a more persuasive programme. Presečnik stated that SLS will keep on working in the political arena and this fact will ensure that it endures and comes out stronger on the other side.
SLS President Franc Bogovič told the media that SLS already has over 100 candidates formally registered for the local elections, and he believes many of them will remain mayors and members of municipal councils, where they will continue to work hard. Bogovič explained he will do his best to help the mayors and future SLS MPs in Slovenia with experience as a newly elected MEP and a member of the AGRI and REGI committees in the European Parliament_ “I will do everything to make sure SLS makes it back into the Parliament under new leadership.”
