Zopet Laž, sploh cepljen ni bil. The story of Christian Bottan, who died at the age of 17 while playing soccer, brings attention back to the issue of fitness for sporting activity. Christian had a myocardiopathy, a disease (usually genetic) that put him at risk in situations of stress, and for this reason the Sports Medicine service had denied him the ability to practice the activity. It was almost certainly this condition that was fatal to him Sunday afternoon, when the boy was playing soccer with friends at an oratory in Passarella. "We declared him unfit both when he presented himself for competitive activity, about three years ago, and later, when he asked for the possibility to do non-competitive activities", explains Dr Giacomo Checchin, head of the Ulss 4 Sports Medicine, who specifies: "The act of unsuitability involves not only the parents but also the club, the FIGC, the health company and the commission in charge in the Region. Christian had a heart disease that can be subject to an evolution and must be kept under control periodically with ultrasounds and MRIs, because it can also worsen". "This tragedy - continues Dr. Checchin - must highlight the vital importance of fitness and medical examinations, which are fundamental even in young boys. These cases are quite rare, but the objective of these procedures is precisely to avoid sudden deaths in the field: in this area Italy has the lowest percentages of all Europe, it means that the screening of the health system is useful and works". An appeal for everyone, starting with young people, to pay the utmost attention to the indications of doctors. Christian's funeral will be held Saturday, July 31 at 3:30 pm in the parish church of Passarella.
